Which Gym Class Will Get You Closest to Your Fitness Goals?

Gym Classes for Body Toning

If long, lean muscles are your end game, turn to pilates. While pilates classes focus on core strength, the varied movements develop muscle strength in the whole body, without making them bulky. On top of that, pilates classes have the added benefit of improving flexibility, posture and focus.

Another great class for getting a toned figure is boxing. Because boxing classes include skipping, kicking punching bags, hitting pads and dodging hits, it’s a great full-body workout. Boxing classes are usually about 70% anaerobic, which will build lean muscle mass, and 30% aerobic, allowing you to build stamina and cardio fitness levels.

Gym Classes for Cardiovascular Fitness

If you’re wanting to increase your cardiovascular fitness and general stamina, high intensity interval training (HIIT) is one of the fastest ways to do that. HIIT classes usually involve short bursts of cardio exercises, followed by short rests. For example, you might be sprinting for 30 seconds, followed by 30 seconds of walking, ten times over.

HIIT workouts have been shown to produce similar results to longer periods of aerobic exercises like swimming or running, but in a much shorter time frame. So if you’re looking to elevate your physical performance, a HIIT class could be the most efficient way of doing so.

Gym Classes for Weight Loss

It’s true, spin classes burn some serious calories.  Between incline settings, spin sprints and additional arm movements, you’ll work up a sweat in no time. Depending on your weight, and how hard you push yourself, a spin class can burn between 400 and 600 calories per hour.

If you’re starting to find weight loss classes tedious, and the scales aren’t budging, try incorporating dance classes into your fitness regimen. Dance classes like Zumba can burn almost 400 calories per hour, and more than that, they’re fun! An engaging, energetic dance class could be just the thing you need to give your weight loss results a boost.

Gym Classes for Gaining Muscle

This almost goes without saying, but by far the best gym class for gaining muscle is a strength training class. Trainers will have you using all sorts of weight equipment, as well as your own body weight, to craft the most effective body building session. While a strength training class might sound tedious, you’d be surprised by just how quickly you’ll be puffing and working up a sweat. Participants of these classes swear by them.
