Meet Casula’s latest More Than a Number, Dene Jobson.

Have you always been involved in fitness or exercise?
I have always been active but never fit. An accident (bullying at school) at a young age caused me to have a hip replacement done 5 years ago.

If yes, what have you done previously?
Nothing major up until now.

What brought you to Planet Fitness?
Planet fitness is my local gym and few years ago I started there and the staff are very helpful. But, on my own I didn’t go through all the way.

Did you have a goal when you first joined?
My starting weight was over 190kgs and current weight is 125kg. My original goal was 120kg, but now I would like to go past that to a lean 110kgs as I am big guy.

Have you reached a goal or have you achieved what you originally set out to do?
Not as yet, I started in September 2014 and so far I’ve lost 70kgs. I’m still working slowly with help of my trainers.

What was your perception of gyms/health clubs before you joined? Has it changed after joining Planet Fitness?
Gyms for big guy that’s over weight was always a scary place to be. But, now everyone knows me and are always so excited to help and assist.

What are your fitness goals for the future?
To continue my weight loss, reach my goal weight and to get leaner, fitter and stronger!

Biggest obstacles you have had to overcome on your fitness journey?
Pain and diet. My hip replacement and bad arthritis from head to toe means I have to work hard through pain as much as I can.

Do you have sources if inspiration? If so, what are they?
I use a lot of motivational videos and quotes to stay focused. I’ve also gained support from great sports people (who I now call friends, trainers and family) that I asked for advice. They have helped me beyond words.

What is your weekly fitness regime?
Monday: 45min gym
Wednesday: Personal Training Session
Thursday: 45min gym

Favourite quote?
Have a lot, the best would be “BEAST MODE!“
