How I Lost 40kg and Changed My Life

Planet Fitness Gosford is proud of the massive change Craig has made!

I first realised I was obese at the age of 13 years old when I was about 95kg. I didn’t do anything about my weight so it only got worse up until around 16 years old when I weighed 115kg which was my heaviest.

I ate because I was constantly bored and had a lot of free time, and because I was upset that I was fat (figure that out ha ha) so I just kept eating because it made me feel good. Although food made me feel better, it was also the problem so I finally had enough of looking and feeling like s#!t every time I would look down and not see my feet or whenever I looked in the mirror and just die a little inside.

The first thing I did was start Weight Watchers as my mum was doing it at the time which helped me eat better, and the weight started falling off. By the time I was 17 I was down to about 100kg-105kg which is when I started weight lifting and exercising a few times a week. Nothing hardcore, just 30 minutes to an hour on my little home gym for around 6 months or so and dropped down to 95kg. The next step was finding a gym, I chose Planet Fitness because it was close, affordable, had good equipment and great staff. Over the following 6 months of training pretty seriously I dropped down to 90kg at 18 years old. At this point I decided to hire an online personal trainer to help with my diet, training and push me past what I thought I was capable of. Over the next year with the help of my trainer I completely overhauled the way I ate, the way I trained. These steps changed the way I looked completely, throughout that year I had dropped down to 75kg and was pretty lean. When I turned 19 I decided to stop my personal training because I had done an immense amount of research on training, diet and supplementation so I could do it myself from then on.

Left side is around 13-14 years old and the right side is now. Unfortunately I have no photos of when I was at my biggest because seeing myself at that size just made me upset.

If I can go from 115kg; fat, lazy, sedentary and sad, to 75kg; fit, active and have never been happier and you can too. Just remember that it’s all mental and everyone starts somewhere, you just have to start and be willing to make sacrifices to achieve your goals. Stay positive and always look at how far you’ve come and not how far you still have to go. If you stay focused and positive then nothing can stop you.

As of right now, I have been continuing to study training, nutrition, and supplementation in great detail and have gained a large amount of knowledge. I am currently studying to be a health and wellness coach then go on to get my PT certifications as helping people achieve their health and fitness goals is something I am very passionate about. I am willing to help a small amount of people through email to get experience under my belt but only people who actually want to and are willing to put in the work it takes to change.
